The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, is committed to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting works from the artistic traditions of the Islamic worlds. With a permanent gallery showcasing art of the Islamic worlds—the only one in Texas and the entire South—the MFAH is poised to become a preeminent center in the United States for the study and appreciation of this intricate and engaging tradition.

Reflecting the diversity of Islamic art, which is not limited to religious objects or artists, the MFAH collection spans 12 centuries and includes works from areas governed or occupied by Islamic populations. The growing collection has been acquired primarily with funds raised at the Art of the Islamic Worlds Galas, with support from the Friends of the Art of the Islamic Worlds patron group, and with gifts from generous donors.
