The Friends of the Art of the Islamic Worlds attend a variety of programs and receptions organized by the curator in partnership with community groups, artists, scholars, and collectors.

Past events include an opening reception at a member's home for the exhibition Gifts of the Sultan; a presentation and seated dinner with world-renowned collectors of modern and contemporary Iranian art; a behind-the-scenes examination and discussion of Persian carpets from the Bayou Bend Collection, with Islamic art historian Walter Denny; and a private reception following the symposium Heroic Themes and Popular Culture: The Lively World of 19th-Century Persian Tilework. Most recently, the Friends celebrated the upcoming MFAH initiatives for the arts of the Islamic worlds and the Turkish Film Festival with a cocktail reception at a member's home.
